VA Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services
Empowering Accessibility: Launching a Compliant and Inclusive Digital Platform
The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services (DBHDS) website exemplifies an inclusive, accessible digital platform built on a custom WordPress theme. Fully compliant with ADA, WCAG 2.1, Section 508, and EN 301549 standards, it ensures usability for a diverse audience.
Supported by over 80 content managers, the site features an integrated custom approval workflow and adheres to rigorous government security and accessibility requirements, hosted via a tailored WAMP setup on Windows Server.
This WordPress implementation enhanced the agency’s Help Desk ticket efficiency for dbhds.virginia.gov by 85%.
In addition to ongoing website maintenance, WordPress Administrator training, SEO optimization training, and server administration, Commonwealth Creative developed a structured approval process for content changes, initiated directly from WordPress.
These website changes were seamlessly translated into ServiceNow ticket requests, logged for tracking, and integrated into a streamlined approval-to-production workflow, optimizing operational efficiency.
